Kumamoto Prefecture announced that it will erect 8 new One Piece character statues in different towns within the prefecture.
It also explained the reasons for the selections of the towns regarding the characters.
We hope many people including anime fans visit Kumamoto during its earthquake recovery period.
By the end of March 2020, the statues of Chopper, Sanji, Brook, and Usopp will be unveiled!

Here are the “stories” behind the placement of the characters:
Tony Tony Chopper@Kumamoto Zoo and Botanical Garden – He is a doctor/vet, so he will care for the animals who were forced to evacuate the zoo after the earthquakes (and have now returned), and to help put smiles on the faces of children visiting the zoo.
Sanji@ Minaterasu Community Center in Mashiki Town – As the crew’s cook, he will help improve kid’s health and create smiles by serving hearty meals made from local produce at the school meal center which was badly damaged by the earthquakes.
Roronoa Zoro@Ozu Chuo Koen Park – He is a swordsman, so in Ozu Town, whose martial arts dojo was damaged by the earthquakes, he will train with kids so as to be strong for the rebuilding of the town.
Brook@Fureai Hiroba Square in Mifune Town – Heisei Music College is located in Mifune Town. As a musician, Brook will work with music majors in the town to play inspiring music and telling comical stories in order to support local residents.
Nami@Moe-no-Sato in Nishihara Village – Navigator Nami will be in charge of operating the windmills, which are symbols of the village. Nami will keep the winds of recovery flowing to all the communities in the area.
Nico Robin@Tokai University in Minami Aso Village – As an archeologist, Robin will conduct research and help people keep alive the stories of their earthquake experiences.
Usopp@Aso Station in Aso City – Being clever, he will create devices that enhance the recovery of nature – a great pride of the people of the area.
Franky@Takamori Station in Takamori Town – As a shipwright, he will help rebuild the devastated Minami Aso Railway, a very important route for commuting students and residents going to clinics,
