*****
The Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art exhibits works ranging from prehistoric to contemporary periods, and also organizes educational activities such as workshops and concerts.
It has a unique exhibition room that displays genuine remains and replicas of the most representative decorated ancient mounds in Kumamoto, and the museum also exhibits prints and sculptures by Chimei Hamada, who is the first Japanese artist whose collection was displayed at the British Museum. His exhibit changes on a rotation basis.
The Hosokawa Collection-Eiseibunko Gallery in Kumamoto is located next to the main building.
